Intro--

Barry is a Vampire who managed to stowaway off his planet after developing a Blood Alt when a merchant crash landed on Carvisious, however he didn’t expect being a Vampire would be the biggest obstacle to his desire for a quiet life. Most would think that Barry, being a Vampire, would be the one to cause all the trouble, as that’s what their reputation holds up, however it’s actually the opposite. People screams when they see him, tires to chase him out of their towns and cities, and sometimes even tries to capture him as some “rare treasure,” and yet he’s the one who is seen as causing trouble, he was simply minding his own business. Barry was the Runt of his siblings, and like most Runts, was kicked out of his sibling group. This doesn’t sound like too big of a setback, except Vampires are very predatorial towards their prey, and sometimes even takes more than they need just because they can. This means any Vampire who’s left to be a lone wolf can’t get the amount of blood needed to combat their thirst, and Barry was no different. Barry spiraled into Blood Lust for about a month, but then he came across a merchant in the forest who happened to be carrying honey on them. This is when Barry developed his Blood Alt, as he loved honey so much his craving for it canceled out his craving for blood. Barry got off of Carvisious by getting onto the merchant’s ship without them knowing, and continued to stowaway on various different space crafts, hopping from planet to planet, and getting stuck in many situations wherever he went. Planet after planet, bad experience after bad experience, it all added to Barry’s already pessimistic attitude, as he quickly learned that Vampires have quite the bad reputation, and learned that he was better off keeping emotionally withdrawn and secretive if he wanted to survive. It wasn’t until he landed on Hkortess that he truly felt like he was getting somewhere, as that’s where he met Arinnetta. Barry is the name he was given by Arinnetta, as all Vampires instinctively speak in a language that is unintelligible to any other species, and are named in that language. Barry is simply a word Arinnetta hears when he speaks his vampirean name. He was given this name when him and Arinnetta first ran off together, as Arinnetta decided she needed something to call him, and if she couldn’t pronounce his original name, then she had to come up with something else, so Barry it was. 

Barry’s past:

One day, Vampire groups suddenly started kicking out the runt of their sibling groups, as they decided it worked better if the preys’ blood could be split evenly between four Vampires rather than five, and if they were going to get rid of someone, may as well get rid of the weakest link. Barry’s siblings saw what all the other groups were doing, and decided they would do the same. Barry went a couple months of surviving off of what he could find, but inevitably spiraled into Blood Lust, this lasted for around a month before he came across a merchant in the forest. This merchant was traveling with their partner to a market planet, but their ship broke down and they had to land on the nearest planet, they had left the ship with their partner to be fixed up and went into the forest to find a village to sell some items, completely unaware of what the planet was overrun with. Naturally, being in a crazed state, Barry killed the merchant at the drop of a hat, and drank as much blood as possible, but afterwards when his mind cleared up a bit, he got curious and started looking through the deceased merchants items. He looked at trinkets, tried jam, and tossed aside other random items, but one thing in particular he found so delectable, so sweet, it was like if the sunlight and yellow flower fields the Vampires so loved could be consumed. That item was honey. He loved the taste of honey so much that it was able to cancel out his desire for blood, as his desire for honey became even stronger. Barry grabbed as many jars as he could, and as he drank the honey to his heart’s content, his mind wandered to something the merchant had mentioned. There was a ship on the planet. With his now clear mind, Barry was able to construct a plan to stowaway onto the ship and get off of Carvisious, however that was just the beginning of Barry’s journey.

Goal: To have his short life be a peaceful one

Thing that gets in the way of his goal: Bad reputation, Blood Lust, Butterfly Mercenary’s

Major flaw: blunt, pessimistic

Abilities--

As per being a Vampire, Barry has the ability to quickly pierce the skin and drink the blood of any species, specifically, but not limited to, red-bloods. Barry also has gained an extreme liking to honey, this phenomenon has given him a tolerance to Blood Lust as his desire for honey over-powers his desire for blood, and is called a “Blood Alt” (Alternate Source of Blood]. The downside to having a Blood Alt is that if a Vampire were to stop using the Blood Alt, they would instantly spiral into a crazed state of Blood Lust, as they would have gone a long time without consuming blood.

Description--

Barry has light brown skin and pale brown hair. He has tired, teal eyes, pointed ears, and fangs. As per being a Vampire, Barry adorns their characteristics.

Relationships with the crew--

Barry only needed Lex as a way to get off the planet him and Arinnetta were stranded on, and Lex’s limited knowledge and gullible nature made things extremely easy. Barry was first introduced to Lex thinking he wasn’t the sharpest tool in the shed, but came to learn that behind that cocky nature is a person who’s loyal and dedicated to those around him. Also Arinnetta likes him, so that’s a plus in Barry’s book.

Barry was surprised to see that Flicker was joining the crew, as the only reason Barry and Arinnetta was let on was because they were posing as mechanics, and yet here was this kid, being let aboard just because he had a dream. Barry stayed on the ship the entire time they were visiting Newleaf, and therefore didn’t meet Flicker until he was brought onboard, but he seemed to be the only one who noticed something a little off about the young Flicker Tail. He didn’t even need to know Flickish to notice that Flicker was hiding something. In fact, Barry only noticed it because Flicker’s behavior reminded him of how he would act when he was younger and trying to hide that he was a Vampire. Perhaps this kid had a dangerous side as well.

Barry has known Arinnetta longer than he’s known any other species, as before meeting her, he never let anyone get close. Arinnetta is able to do things Barry could never dream of, she’s spontaneous, and does things as she wishes without worrying how it would affect her image. Hohkey’s are known troublemakers, which means no one is surprised when Arinnetta does something unexpected or troublesome, meanwhile Vampires have a reputation of being dangerous, which means if Barry were to step out of line, he could get in serious trouble. The thing both have in common is that no one wants either on their planet. Arinnetta has gotten Barry out of tough spots more than once, and for that he claims that he’s forever in her debt, however Arinnetta told him that she didn’t desire anything, unless he came across Courcarvi seeds, then that could be the payment.

Barry knew the moment he saw Pixie to brace for an outburst of questions, “Why is a vampire here!?” “You’re the mechanic? A vampire?” “Do you *at least* have a Blood Alt?” None of those were new to Barry, in fact Pixie’s reaction was one of the more chill reactions Barry has received. Pixie was highly suspicious of Barry at first, but Barry noticed that the more he listened to her rules and the more he minded his own business, the less tense she became. He didn’t mind doing what she wanted, as it was hardly a bother to him, just sit in a corner, make sure he regularly uses his Blood Alt, and fix up the ship whenever necessary. Barry actually started to notice that Pixie actually seemed to favor him over Arinnetta, it seems to win that Feather Fairy’s trust all you have to do is behave yourself.
